Job Description
This is a responsible and skilled labor position involving the supervision of a crew engaged in the construction, installation, maintenance and repair of the municipal wastewater plant and sewage system.  Employee is responsible for working with and leading laborers and equipment in the effective completion of assigned tasks. Duties are assigned orally and through written work orders. Employee is expected to operate with considerable independence in making technical decisions and in maintaining safety measures under hazardous conditions. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Wastewater Superintendent in areas of routine procedures and under direct supervision in the event of special assignments. Performance is evaluated by review of work in progress and observation of results upon completion of tasks. Employee may be required to perform periodic standby for emergency calls and service after regular hours and holidays.

Minimum Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Considerable knowledge of the materials, methods, and techniques used relative the construction installation and maintenance of underground structures. Considerable knowledge of the location of city wastewater lines. Knowledge of occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions, and methods of promoting safety among subordinates.

Knowledge of federal, state and municipal laws, statutes and ordinances governing the treatment of wastewater and disposal of contaminates armful to the public health or the environment.

Ability to direct, supervise, and assist work crews in various activities related to construction, installation, maintenance and repair of wastewater systems.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the general public.

Ability to act quickly and calmly in emergency situations and to direct work of subordinates in adverse weather conditions.

Ability to accurately maintain operational records.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and work independently of detailed supervision.

Ability to operate equipment and machinery used in constructing, maintaining, and repairing wastewater facilities.

Ability to perform arduous manual labor and lift heavy objects, often under unfavorable conditions.
